A pedigree entered from the herd book will have complete information, and the herd book volume and page along with all other information in the herd book listing will be enterred into the notes section.
Some pedigrees are added by using the ancestor information recorded with the original pedigree. These entries will not show birthdate, color, or the notes information until the pedigree is completed from the herd book entry.

Legacy processes testing for world-wide Dexter owners for all genetic tests in the breed. Legacy uses the world renowned Veterinary Genetics Laboratory of the University of California, Davis campus. UCD-VGL developed DNA testing in cattle in the 1950's and they have worked with many breeds through the decades.
It is simple! Complete a service application and by return email you will receive a test form, and an import certificate. Attach tail hairs and mail. Results are usually available within 5 days after the sample is received at the UCD lab and sent by email.
If you have ordered a DNA genotype your animal qualifies for entry into the Legacy Dexter Cattle Registry, providing it meets the requirements for registration of all Dexter registies worldwide and the pedigree can be traced through registered ancestors to the foundation ancestor in it's pedigree Every Dexter must be traceable to foundation ancestors and have an unbroken purebred record of registry.
IF Your Dexter has been genotyped at another lab in the US, or other countries it also qualifies for entry into the Legacy World Registry. A cSe number Nd proof of genotype is required
You are invited to participate in an effort to make a WORLD genetic record of the Dexter breed!

The birthdates are entered as follows: 00/00/00 Month - Day - Year If month or day are not available, it is entered as 00. In the case of the year. .. . . the entire entry is left blank and notation is made in the note section that no birthdate is listed in the herd book.
If there is no color listed, or the listed color varies from standard black, red, dun, the exact listing from the herd book is added to the note section

gCurrently the registry uses ADCA AND PDCA for the American entries. For other countries there is a main category of OTHER and then within the registrations the entries are entered as IM or IF for Irish male or female. EM or EF for English. CM or CF for Canada. AUM or AUF for Australia. The first letter(s) of the names of other countries will be the designated entry.
There is thought to changing the categories to RDS for the Irish entries, DCS for the English, and the association letters for other countries.
Suggestions are welcome.
